I am grateful to be a part of the Bachelor of Education Program. Although this is true, I believe I’ve been fortunate in my post-secondary education journey to gain important knowledge that will be valuable in my future career as a teacher from previous course work as well.
- Secwepemctsin – I chose to take this as my second language in university. I saw great value in continuing my learning of my traditional language, especially since I plan to maintain my career within the community. Not only did I gain knowledge of the language, I also gained experience with elders, knowledge keepers, and local community members. With this experience, I plan to utilize what I’ve learnt and incorporate the teachings within my future lessons.
- Pathways to Hope and Resiliency – This course was powerfully insightful. It allowed for us as students to explore the more emotional well-being of ourselves in a school setting. In the course we explored the importance of caring for ones well-being. For example, the professor ensured to provide us with time for mindfulness and had mindfulness practices through out our semester. I will look back onto this course and take the lessons about hopefulness, mindfulness, and resiliency, to be able to insert it into my future teaching practice.
- Understanding Behaviour – This course was apart of the Education Assistant and Community Support Worker certificate I completed in 2019. It covers the characteristics of different behavioural challenges that may arise within different students/diagnosis’s. This knowledge is extremely important when discussing inclusivity within a classroom and I am fortunate to have this background entering into my career as an educator.
